WILD ANIMALS RESCUE
Autochthonous wild animals found in difficult conditions, for example: sicknesses, car accidents, orphans, etc., are pointed out by private citizens and public institutions to the SOS Animali Onlus. This manages the rescue service for the Toscany Region in the provinces of Grosseto and Siena, with an institutional agreement. The SOS Animali Onlus, in sequence to warning, activate the veterinarians, who provide the rescue and first aid of the animal. In sequence, the animal is conducted at CRASM, where (s)he receives health cares and rehabilitation for the following reintroduction into nature. Special attention is dedicated to the orphans care giving, since they need avoid subjects imprinting, in order to guarantee the possibility to reintroduce them into the wild.
The SOS Animali Onlus recommends paying particular attention to the false abandonment phenomenon. This is frequently used on various bird species, but also among cervids and leporidae. It consists of the puppy leaving the nest or lair for a while, staying alone in the grass or in the forest as part of his/her weaning process. Their vocalizations can be confused with help requests, but they are not. Consequently, it is especially important to verify if the animal is in a real danger or trouble before doing anything.
